Digital Comics – epic fail?

Posted on March 8th, 2011 in Comic Books,Web Comics by Jeremy

Hey guys -

So early poll results are leaning heavily towards the negative end concerning the purchasing of digital comics.  I’d like to get your thoughts on why digital comics aren’t a good idea or why you wouldn’t be interested in jumping on that particular bandwagon.

I’m interested because we’re thinking about offering them for purchase in the store as well as on the website, and I’d just like to hear everyone’s take on the positive and negatives.  I can see both sides on this one.

Anyway, after I’m armed with some of your feedback, I’ll be back with a long-winded rant.

And if you haven’t already…VOTE!

I think they look great in digital format. Cheaper, and less of them stacking up around me.

Plus w/ the digital format you see one frame at a time and your eyes don’t give away the stuff on the next page.

Thanks, JJ. I agree – they do look fantastic in digital format, especially on a high res screen.

Good point. Hadn’t thought of that. I think we’re going to see digital start taking over the way it has with movies and books, but probably at a slower pace. I really think a selling point to push new folks into digital comics will be providing bonus materials that aren’t offered in print: extra pages, audio commentary, etc.

Gotta admit, though, I’m still prefer print. But I think that would change if I had an iPad or other tablet to view them on.

I’ve had the opportunity to offer my thoughts and suggestions to Diamond recently, and am working with them to try to push digital in the right direction for both comic lovers and comic shops.
