Season of the Witch | Screening Quiz/Contest

Posted on January 6th, 2011 in Events,Movies,Website by admin

Thursday January 6, 2011 @ 7:30pm, Denver, CO

In the supernatural thriller Season of the Witch, Nicolas Cage stars as a 14th century Crusader who returns with his comrade to a homeland devastated by the Black Plague. A beleaguered church, deeming sorcery the culprit of the plague, commands the two knights to transport an accused witch to a remote abbey, where monks will perform a ritual in hopes of ending the pestilence.

A priest, a grieving knight, an itinerant swindler and a headstrong youth who can only dream of becoming a knight join a mission troubled by mythically hostile wilderness and fierce contention over the fate of the girl.

When the embattled party arrives at the abbey, a horrific discovery jeopardizes the knight’s pledge to ensure the girl fair treatment, and pits them against an inexplicably powerful and destructive force.

This movie is rated Rated PG-13.

Artist ZACH HOWARD will be at the Heroes Only from 1 to 5 PM, Saturday, September 18, 2010!!!

Posted on September 16th, 2010 in Comic Books,Events,Library,Movies by admin

Zach Howard may not look like anyone likes him, but the truth is: almost four people like Zach. First there’s his mom – she definitely likes him.

Then there’s Zach’s mailman – he always smiles when he sees Zach. (What more proof does one need?) The third person is Brett Butler, the comedian. Zach is a big fan of hers and once at one of her shows Zach wouldn’t stop laughing. “I like this guy,” she said as she pointed generally in Zach’s direction. The whole crowd heard her. And last but not least is Zach’s dog, Zach Junior.

If you think there’s a chance you’d like Zach, please, please, please become a member of the Zach Howard Appreciation Society. Registration has been open since 1980, and if you’re the first to sign up you’ll receive a signed picture of Zach, delivered by Zach himself. Please be sure to have a meal waiting for him when he arrives. (He loves Dinty Moore!)

The following are just some of the reasons why you should like Zach.

1. Zach has never intentionally killed a bunny.

Currently you can find Zach living in Colorado, where he draws pictures of men in tights for Warner Brothers and Disney. Zach insists the woman living in his house is his wife, but no documentation has been provided to substantiate this claim.

I met Zach at ComicFest 2010.  I knew of some of his work before meeting him and since then he has become an artist that I look forward to seeing more.  He has a great attitude towards his craft and seems to have fun doing it – most of the time.  Heroes Only looks forward to having him in the store with his artwork and his presence. You can check out some his awesome artwork on his website and on his Deviant Art page!

Come by Heroes Only to see him and get artwork and comics signed by him and maybe get an original sketch!!!

FELIPE ECHEVARRIA & TODD JONES here today, September 11th!

Posted on September 11th, 2010 in Comic Books,Events,Library,Store by admin

FELIPE ECHEVARRIA

Felipe Echevarria is an American artist, working in dual arenas of fine art, and comics and graphic novels. His best known works are the watercolor comics adaptation of the Hitchcock film “PSYCHO“, the underground Sandman Death paintings collection entitled “ANKH“, and his incorporation of spirituality and metaphysics in both his fine art and upcoming comic art works. Visit www.felipe.tv for the latest comic art and upcoming projects.

TODD JONES

Originally from the Far East, and by “Far East” I mean Richmond, Virginia, Todd Jones moved to Colorado a little over five years ago fearing ninjas might be chasing him –thankfully there weren’t any (or at least he hasn’t seen them yet). Settling into domestic bliss with his lovely wife, he was taken by surprise when she insisted that he stay home and write until he sold something that made them filthy rich or just plain rich. Although he had always enjoyed writing as a hobby, Todd feared trying to pursue it as a career, but not as much as he feared what his wife might do to him if he refused. Thus, he agreed to do as she commanded. Currently, he makes a little moolah from editing and has several creative projects in development including STAKES, a horror/adventure comic which is being illustrated by comic and fine artist, Felipe Echevarria. Hopefully, his wife will soon be pleased enough with his progress to unchain him from his desk.

HEROES ONLY is looking forward to having them as our guest on September 11, 2010.  They will be at the store from 1 PM to 5 PM.  There is a strong possibility the y will be in the Teen Lounge at the Laramie County Public Library from Noon to 1.  They will be at both locations promoting their new projects and selling artwork

Free Comic Book Day – May 1st

Posted on April 30th, 2010 in Comic Books,Events,Store by Jeremy

Free Comic Book Day is a single day – the first Saturday in May each year – when participating comic book shops across North America and around the world give away comic books absolutely FREE to anyone who comes into their stores. Publishers produce special edition comics geared to attracting new non-comic readers. There is a wide diversity of comics available, from traditional comics fare like Archie and Disney, super-heroes from Marvel and DC, manga from Tokyopop, as well as work from independent publishers.

This year, such titles as GI Joe, Shrek, Archie, and many others will be available.

This event will take place at Heroes Only Comics & Games on Saturday, May 1st.  We’ll be giving out free comics from 9am to 9pm.  Make sure to get there as early as possible to ensure the widest variety of titles to choose from.

To learn more about Free Comic Book Day and the free titles being given out this year, visit the official website by clicking HERE!

See ya there!

Information on The Last Zombie:

“Follow the frantic journey of a man seeking his one ray of hope in a post-apocalyptic nightmare United States. The zombies have come and (mostly) gone, but the disease is still out there, threatening the survivors. The country swarms with roving packs of wild animals—and worse, desperate humans—ready to do whatever it takes to survive. Through it all, one man must drive from Colorado to New York to reunite with the woman he loves…before it’s too late for either of them!”

The Last  Zombie will be a 5 part series.

Information on Punisher #75 and Shadow Season:

“Special double-sized 75th issue!  Several years ago, under a cloudless day in New York’s Central Park, Frank Castle’s family was slaughtered in a mob crossfire.  On that day, the man known as Frank Castle died and in his place was born the Punisher, a relentless engine of vengeance.  Five stories take an unflinching look at what really happened that day, providing a penetrating look into the mass of hard muscle that once was Frank Castle’s heart.  You won’t look at the Punisher the same way again.  Featuring Charlie Huston and Ken Lashley’s “Smallest Bit of This”…Peter Milligan and Tomm Coker’s “Father’s Day”…“Gregg Hurwitz and Das Pastoras’ “Gateway”…Thomas Piccirilli and Laurence Cambpell’s “Dolls”…and “TBD”

“In Piccirilli’s brooding, character-driven chiller, former New York City cop Finn, recently blinded, wallows in his new role as an English teacher at a posh girls’ boarding school. A storm looms as Finn and a skeleton staff remain to supervise a handful of girls staying at the school during winter break. Piccirilli (The Fever Kill) harps on his theme of isolation with palpable glee as Finn, surrounded by self-absorbed adolescents and mysterious, brutally violent attackers roaming the campus, grapples with blindness amid a sonar-dulling snowstorm in a remote area with no cellphone service. Terrified of solitude and driven by his cop instincts, Finn embarks on a wrenching journey that exposes the raw emotion of a man nearly destroyed by disability and circumstance.”
