It’s a genre of art that some may say is for children, but Laurel Shelley-Reuss says comic books tell stories for all ages.

“There’s nothing better than seeing someone enjoy something you did on a very visceral level,” said Laurel.

She says this medium is way to create emotions in those who read the comics she creates.

“It’s wonderful to watch someone read your comic and smile, frown and get angry along with the characters,” she says. “It’s wonderful to be able to convey emotions in that sort of way and make people happy and enjoy themselves.”

Laurel started cartooning when she was young. “A friend of the family did free lance comic books and I spent much time with him over the years that I realized I really liked doing this.”
So she headed from Wyoming to Georgia to the Savannah College of Art and Design.

“I went to college and majored in it and got work pretty quickly afterwords dong illustrations for gaming companies. Then after that I got picked up by a publisher in Canada and I’m now working for them.

She is currently working on two comics for the publishing company.

“I do a horror and a science fiction comic. They’re both very different.”

Laurel says to her, art should convey emotion and feeling and that is what she does through the production of these graphic novels.

“I think art is just expression, really in any form.”

In the supernatural thriller Season of the Witch, Nicolas Cage stars as a 14th century Crusader who returns with his comrade to a homeland devastated by the Black Plague. A beleaguered church, deeming sorcery the culprit of the plague, commands the two knights to transport an accused witch to a remote abbey, where monks will perform a ritual in hopes of ending the pestilence.

A priest, a grieving knight, an itinerant swindler and a headstrong youth who can only dream of becoming a knight join a mission troubled by mythically hostile wilderness and fierce contention over the fate of the girl.

When the embattled party arrives at the abbey, a horrific discovery jeopardizes the knight’s pledge to ensure the girl fair treatment, and pits them against an inexplicably powerful and destructive force.

This movie is rated Rated PG-13.
