Free Comic Book Day – May 1st

Posted on April 30th, 2010 in Comic Books,Events,Store by Jeremy

Free Comic Book Day is a single day – the first Saturday in May each year – when participating comic book shops across North America and around the world give away comic books absolutely FREE to anyone who comes into their stores. Publishers produce special edition comics geared to attracting new non-comic readers. There is a wide diversity of comics available, from traditional comics fare like Archie and Disney, super-heroes from Marvel and DC, manga from Tokyopop, as well as work from independent publishers.

This year, such titles as GI Joe, Shrek, Archie, and many others will be available.

This event will take place at Heroes Only Comics & Games on Saturday, May 1st.  We’ll be giving out free comics from 9am to 9pm.  Make sure to get there as early as possible to ensure the widest variety of titles to choose from.

Information on The Last Zombie:

“Follow the frantic journey of a man seeking his one ray of hope in a post-apocalyptic nightmare United States. The zombies have come and (mostly) gone, but the disease is still out there, threatening the survivors. The country swarms with roving packs of wild animals—and worse, desperate humans—ready to do whatever it takes to survive. Through it all, one man must drive from Colorado to New York to reunite with the woman he loves…before it’s too late for either of them!”

The Last  Zombie will be a 5 part series.

Information on Punisher #75 and Shadow Season:

“Special double-sized 75th issue!  Several years ago, under a cloudless day in New York’s Central Park, Frank Castle’s family was slaughtered in a mob crossfire.  On that day, the man known as Frank Castle died and in his place was born the Punisher, a relentless engine of vengeance.  Five stories take an unflinching look at what really happened that day, providing a penetrating look into the mass of hard muscle that once was Frank Castle’s heart.  You won’t look at the Punisher the same way again.  Featuring Charlie Huston and Ken Lashley’s “Smallest Bit of This”…Peter Milligan and Tomm Coker’s “Father’s Day”…“Gregg Hurwitz and Das Pastoras’ “Gateway”…Thomas Piccirilli and Laurence Cambpell’s “Dolls”…and “TBD”

“In Piccirilli’s brooding, character-driven chiller, former New York City cop Finn, recently blinded, wallows in his new role as an English teacher at a posh girls’ boarding school. A storm looms as Finn and a skeleton staff remain to supervise a handful of girls staying at the school during winter break. Piccirilli (The Fever Kill) harps on his theme of isolation with palpable glee as Finn, surrounded by self-absorbed adolescents and mysterious, brutally violent attackers roaming the campus, grapples with blindness amid a sonar-dulling snowstorm in a remote area with no cellphone service. Terrified of solitude and driven by his cop instincts, Finn embarks on a wrenching journey that exposes the raw emotion of a man nearly destroyed by disability and circumstance.”
