I read the first issue, I thought it was really great. Some of the reviews I read complained about it being slow but I liked the character development and the cliff hanger at the end.

Exactly. The cliff hanger left me wanting to read the next issue. I think by catching the audience up on the backstory initially, it gives us more insight into the characters, but also leaves more action to be packed into the remaining issue.
